We believe in the joy, charm and connection that flowers and floristry can bring into our lives.
However, while floristry can bring us so much beauty, it can also leave a profound, lasting impact on the environment.
That’s why we’re doing everything we can to reduce our footprint and support the longevity of the magnificent world around us
Biodegradable, Eco-Friendly and Recyclable Floristry
Here at Hanako, we’re taking every measure we can to become a fully sustainable florist.
Eco-Friendly Packaging
We have sought eco-friendly alternatives for all of our packaging, using biodegradable fresh wraps, compostable plastic pockets and biodegradable cellophane. Even our tissues and stickers are good for the environment, created from recycled, compostable materials and ordered from other sustainable companies looking to give back by planting new trees.
As an alternative to floral foams, we also use biodegradable Agra Wool and work with reusable floral mechanic techniques, such as chicken wire and moss, that reduce unrecyclable wastage.
Reducing our Carbon Footprint
To minimise our carbon footprint, we’ve limited our delivery hours to 3 pm – 6 pm each day, collating our deliveries to ensure we can be efficient and reduce the time our van is on the road.
We’re also making a conscious effort to limit wholesale flower deliveries. Instead, we’ll be supporting local, independent growers while finding your fresh blooms, reducing the need for overseas deliveries.
No Flower Left Behind
But that’s not all. We’ll also be focusing on ensuring no flower is left behind. Every Saturday, we invite you to join us for Flower Hour, where you can purchase flowers at a discounted price to ensure no bloom goes to waste. Any other flora will then be sent to local causes, such as care homes, while other green waste will be composted.

Plant Me!
If someone you love has sent you one of our seeded greeting cards with your beautiful bouquet, simply plant the card and enjoy a season-long reminder of their affection!
Our gift cards are packed full of wildflower and herb seeds and are easy to grow:
- Start by soaking the card in water for 12 hours – this will swell the seeds and support germination.
- Take the card out of the water and pop it under a thin layer of soil.
- Keep the soil moist by spraying lightly with water daily until you see your seedlings pop through the earth.
- Sit back and watch your seedlings bloom! Keep them hydrated with plenty of light.
Germination will take about ten days, and you can plant them either indoors or outside. If you do plant outside, we’d advise doing so in late spring or early summer to avoid frosts.
