The days can be a little greyer and colder too during the first weeks of the New Year so adding a little colour with some amazing blooms can make a big difference.

Here we look at just a few flower arrangements that can lift the spirits and make the perfect gift for a birthday, anniversary or simply to say thank you.

  1. Buy a Potted Plant

You don’t have to go for a bunch of flowers, of course. Potted plants can last for years when looked after properly and look absolutely fantastic.

If you want to add a little colour during the winter months, the pink cyclamen plant is a great option. They are easy to maintain and only require a reasonably lit area that is relatively cool in the home – the luxurious pink flowers and green leaves can certainly help lift the mood of any space.

If you’re looking for something more exotic, then how about a cordyline kiwi which has multi-coloured leaves with green and pink and tinges of yellow? There are lots of different options nowadays if you are looking for a gift for that someone special.

  1. Carnations

If you’re looking for a bouquet that comes in wonderful colours and fills the room with fragrance, the traditional carnation shouldn’t be overlooked.

Carnations also tend to last quite a long time compared to other flowers and take very little work to look after. Widely available during the summer months it’s the perfect flower for a birthday celebration and it is often associated with a mother’s love.

  1. Spring Bouquets

As we head into January, we know that spring and warmer days are not too far away. You don’t have to wait until March or April, however, if you want to add a touch of colour and a sense of seasonal renewal to the home.

Daffodils, primroses, and elegant blue Muscari are all available at this time of year and, when presented in a wicker basket, offer a great way to add a splash of colour to any home.

  1. Tulips

Another spring flower that is available earlier than you think is the tulip. These elegant blooms offer bold colours and double-tone effects that immediately add a welcome splash of colour to any living room. Tulips are also easy to maintain and can last quite a long time, but you do need to remember to top the water up regularly.

If you are buying a flower arrangement in January, there are also plenty of seasonal blooms to choose from. Our top tip is to go for colour and scent as these can certainly lift the mood.
